Palliative-care consultation
Pain and symptom control, medical accompaniment and goals-of-care discussions in palliative situations — complementing primary care and mobile palliative services.
Strong overlaps with palliative medicine emerge from intensive-care and anaesthesiology practice: pain therapy, symptom control in advanced disease, education on therapy limitation, and accompaniment of patients and relatives in difficult disease situations. This counselling is provided in close coordination with the family physician and — where involved — with the mobile palliative teams and inpatient structures in Tyrol.

In an advanced, non-curable illness a different goal moves to the foreground: to live as well, as symptom-free and as self-determined as possible. From my intensive-care and anaesthesiology work I bring experience in treating pain and distressing symptoms — and in the conversations about what is medically sensible and wished for.
The counselling covers pain and symptom control, clarifying goals of care (also in connection with an advance directive) and accompanying those affected and their relatives. It always takes place in coordination with your family physician and — where involved — the mobile palliative team.
Important: this offer complements existing care, it does not replace it. There is no 24/7 availability; in acute crises the treating team, the mobile palliative team or the emergency number 144 are the right contacts.
