House and hotel calls · Innsbruck and surroundings

A doctor at your hotel — Innsbruck and surroundings

Being unwell away from home is miserable, and finding a doctor in an unfamiliar country makes it worse. I come to your hotel, apartment or house: examination, an assessment of what is causing the pain and, where it is medically indicated, treatment on the spot — in English, with a written report for your insurer.

No obligation · Callback usually within a few hours · Private practice, paid directly

Not an emergency service. For chest pain, breathing difficulty, paralysis, loss of consciousness, severe bleeding or serious injury, call 144 in Austria or 112 anywhere in Europe. The Austrian out-of-hours medical service is reached on 141. A house call is a scheduled appointment where you are staying, not an ambulance and not a 24-hour on-call service.

Who it is for

When getting to a practice is the problem

Severe pain turns every taxi ride and every waiting room into an ordeal — and on a trip you rarely know where to go in the first place. A visit to where you are staying is often the more sensible answer: I see you in your room, take the time it needs and can judge the situation on the spot.

I am a specialist in anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine with a focus on pain therapy, based in Hall in Tirol, ten minutes from Innsbruck. You do not need to have been a patient before.

  • Hotel and apartment guests who fall ill or are in pain while travelling
  • Pain after a skiing, hiking or sports injury — assessment and pain relief
  • A migraine attack away from home that will not respond to your usual medication
  • Back pain that makes travelling on or getting to a practice hard to face
  • Business travellers who cannot spend half a day in a waiting room
  • Older relatives staying with you whose mobility is limited

Response

I usually call back within a few hours. Whether a visit is possible the same day depends on the practice schedule — but you will know where you stand quickly.

Where I come

Hotels, guesthouses, holiday apartments and private homes in Innsbruck, Hall in Tirol and the surrounding valley.

Costs and insurance

A private practice with no Austrian public insurance contract: you pay directly and receive an itemised invoice in English for your travel or private health insurer. A European Health Insurance Card does not cover private practices.

How it works

What happens when you get in touch

1

Tell me what is going on

Use the form on this page or call. What matters most is where you are staying, what the symptoms are and how urgent it feels. The more precise your description, the better I can judge whether a visit is the right answer.

2

I call you back

Usually within a few hours, by phone. We work out together whether a visit makes sense and whether it fits into the day. If it does not, I say so plainly and point you to a better place to go.

3

Examination where you are

In your hotel room, apartment or house — history and physical examination without a waiting room. I take the time it needs and look at any reports or medication you have with you.

4

Treatment and what comes next

Where it is medically indicated, I treat on the spot. You receive a written summary in English for yourself, for your insurer and for the doctor who treats you at home.

On site

What is possible where you are staying

The scope depends on what the examination shows. Whether medication makes sense, and which, is something I decide only after examining you — and discuss with you first.

  • Medical examination and assessment of what is causing the pain
  • Pain medication on site — oral, subcutaneous or intravenous, depending on the situation and only after examination
  • Intravenous fluids and infusion therapy, for example during a prolonged migraine attack
  • Nausea and symptom control alongside pain treatment
  • Written report in English for your travel insurer and your doctor at home
  • An honest assessment of whether hospital assessment or imaging is needed — and help organising it

The limits of a house call: X-rays, laboratory tests and procedures requiring sterile conditions are not possible in a hotel room. A suspected fracture, a dislocated joint or a head injury needs a hospital. If that is what I find, I will tell you so directly and help you get there.

Common questions

Questions about house and hotel calls

Do you speak English?

Yes. The consultation, the examination and the written report are all available in English.

Can you come to my hotel?

Yes. Hotels, guesthouses, holiday apartments and private homes all work. I see you in your room, so you do not have to travel while in pain.

Is this an emergency service?

No. For chest pain, breathing difficulty, paralysis, loss of consciousness, severe bleeding or serious injury, call 144 in Austria or 112 anywhere in Europe. A house call is a scheduled medical appointment where you are staying, not an ambulance service and not a 24-hour on-call service.

I hurt myself skiing. Is a house call the right choice?

It can be, for pain assessment and pain relief. But a suspected fracture, a dislocated joint or a head injury needs imaging, and that is not possible where you are staying. In those cases I will tell you directly that a hospital assessment is the right next step.

What does it cost, and will my insurance pay?

This is a private practice with no Austrian public health insurance contract, so you pay directly. You receive an itemised invoice in English that you can submit to your travel or private health insurer. The cost consists of the medical service and a travel fee, and you are told the amount before the visit. A European Health Insurance Card does not cover private practices.

How quickly can you come?

I usually call back within a few hours. Whether a visit is possible the same day depends on the practice schedule. I cannot promise a fixed time in advance, but you will know where you stand quickly.

Can I get a report for my insurer?

Yes. You receive a written summary of the findings, the treatment given and the recommended next steps — in English, suitable for submission to an insurer.

What should I have ready?

A list of your current medication, any previous reports you have with you, your passport or ID and your insurance details. A quiet, well-lit spot where an examination is possible is helpful.

Not sure whether a visit is the right thing?

Call — two minutes on the phone is usually enough to work out what makes most sense in your situation.
