Headache is not just headache: migraine, tension-type and cluster headache require different treatments. The first step is therefore an accurate classification — through a detailed conversation, your medical history and, where needed, a neurological examination.

On this basis we put together an individual plan: acute treatment for the attack, preventive (prophylactic) therapy to reduce frequency and intensity, and — depending on the findings — targeted procedures such as botulinum toxin for chronic migraine or a greater occipital nerve block. A headache diary helps identify triggers and assess how well treatment works.

The goal is for you to regain more low-symptom days and plan everyday life better. How well each measure works varies from person to person — we fine-tune the therapy at follow-up appointments.

Treatment options

  • Detailed history and headache-diary setup
  • Medical acute and preventive therapy
  • Botulinum toxin therapy for chronic migraine (PREEMPT protocol)
  • Greater occipital nerve block (GON block) with a local anaesthetic, supplemented with a corticosteroid where indicated — as an additional option in migraine and headache therapy
  • Infusion therapy for status migrainosus (e.g. magnesium, antiemetics, optionally lidocaine — under medical supervision, hospital-replacing)
  • Counselling on triggers and lifestyle factors
