Laboratory diagnostics and results consultation
Blood is taken at the practice and analysed by a Tyrolean partner laboratory — followed by a consultation in which every value is explained in plain language. Where there is a medical indication, the laboratory analysis can be billed to Austrian statutory health insurance.
A laboratory report is only useful once it has been put in context. There is often a considerable difference between a value slightly outside the reference range and a finding that needs treatment — and that difference comes from symptoms, history, medication and the trend over time, not from the number alone. Blood is taken at the practice in Hall in Tirol and analysed by the partner laboratory. The results are then discussed in an appointment, in person or by video.

Every results consultation ends with a written patient letter. It sets out in plain language what was measured, what the values mean, which ones stand out and what follows from them. It is deliberately not a second printout of the laboratory list but a translation of it — also as a basis for conversations with your GP and any specialists involved.
Which parameters are measured is decided together during the appointment — based on symptoms, previous findings and the question at hand. Some questions require more than a standard blood count.
If values stand out, the same appointment covers what comes next: a repeat test after a defined interval, additional diagnostics, or a targeted referral to the appropriate specialty.

Costs and billing
- Taking the blood, the results consultation and the written patient letter are private services of the practice and are invoiced accordingly.
- The laboratory analyses themselves are billed to Austrian statutory health insurance through the contracted laboratory where there is a medical indication.
- Additional parameters requested without a medical indication are billed to you privately by the laboratory.
- The results consultation does not replace necessary specialist treatment. Where values stand out, you will be referred appropriately.

Private practice (Wahlarzt). There are no statutory insurance contracts. You receive an invoice and pay it directly. If you are insured in Austria, you may submit it to your insurer (ÖGK, SVS, BVAEB, KFA) for partial reimbursement. If you are insured abroad, the invoice is issued in your name for your own insurer or travel policy — whether and how much is refunded is decided there.
Laboratory. Blood is drawn at the practice and analysed by a partner laboratory in Tyrol. For visitors from abroad the laboratory work is a private service and is invoiced as such, as are the consultation and the medical interpretation of the results, which you receive as a written letter.
